What kind of fire doors are to be used in skyscrapers?

In Hyderabad, the number of multi-story buildings and skyscrapers has significantly increased. Areas like Kokapet, Financial District, Nanakramguda, Gachibowli, and Kondapur have seen a substantial rise in the last three to four years. However, recently there was a fire incident in Kuwait, and investors’ attention briefly shifted to our city’s multi-story buildings. The ongoing construction of skyscrapers in our city… Are we implementing stringent measures to prevent fire incidents? Especially in skyscrapers, how should we use such fire doors? Shall we learn about what kind of doors are to be used according to the 2016 National Building Code?

Fire is a socialist thing. For this, there are no differences. Once a fire rises, it will spread its power until it burns out. That is why builders are warning people in apartments about fire incidents. Mainly, many multi-story buildings and skyscrapers are being constructed in Hyderabad these days. Those who are buying flats should be aware of the precautions they should take to prevent fire accidents. How are the builders doing the flooring? What kind of amenities are they providing? They should know how to use any traps to prevent fire accidents. Here is how to do them according to the 2016 National Building Code:

According to the NBC 2016 code, in most buildings, they are divided into insulated and non-insulated doors. As per the gazette notification, fire-rated doors must be used. Are you using fire-rated doors when buying flats in high-rise buildings? Find out without any mistakes. According to RERA law, even if it didn’t mention the fire-rated doors in the agreement, please try to make an effort to use the fire-rated doors for the safety and security of the buyers.

All exits should have insulated fire doors, which must withstand 30 minutes of thermal insulation and have a 120-minute fire rating.

For 120-minute fire doors, the minimum sheet metal frame and shutter should be 1.2 mm thick.

In exit egress, for insulated fire doors, the maximum vision panel size should be 0.06 square meters. For non-insulated doors, it should not exceed 0.12 square meters. Both should also have fire ratings.

Smoke detectors should be installed at three different heights on all fire doors.
Proper labels should be affixed, providing details such as door manufacturer, type, fire rating, door serial number, manufacturing year, and certificate reference number.

Testing of doors under locked conditions cannot be substituted with testing of doors under unlocked conditions (deadbolt and handle). Independent testing is required for locked and unlocked doors.

Door manufacturers must provide assembly instructions for the entire assembly of the door, hardware, and surface finishes as one unit.
